GILBERT ARENAS’ ZERO TWO HERO FOUNDATION PARTNERS WITH BEYONCE’S THE SURVIVOR FOUNDATION TO DO A PRE-CONCERT CAN FOOD DRIVE TO BENEFIT THE CAPITAL AREA FOOD BANK
Washington, DC (August 8, 2007) – 3 Time NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas announced today that he is supporting Beyoncé’s pre-concert food donation drive in Washington, DC as part of her Beyoncé Experience Tour. The first 1,000 fans to drop off non-perishable food items will receive an autographed photo of Beyoncé. The fan that brings the most food will receive a special prize from both Gilbert and Beyoncé. All of the food items donated in Washington, DC will benefit the Capital Area Food Bank.
Mathew Knowles (Beyonce's Father and Manager) has challenged, EZ Street of WKYS 93.9 FM to a game of basketball for the opportunity to go on stage with Beyoncé. EZ Street must also raise 9,000 lbs of food for the Beyoncé Experience Tour Food Drive. They will play each other in a 1 on 1 basketball game at the Verizon Center on the practice court. This game will be officiated by the Washington Wizards’ own Gilbert Arenas! The stakes are set high for EZ Street as he gets a chance to meet the beautiful Beyoncé Knowles if he can beat Mathew. We all know Mathew Knowles is a competitor so this will not be an easy task for EZ Street. Twenty lucky WKYS fans will win a chance to witness this event at the Verizon Center.
“Hunger affects every community in the Metropolitan Area and that is why I am proud that my foundation can join Beyoncé in this effort. My goal is to ensure that children have healthy and productive lives and the continued success of food banks is essential to my work. So I hope that people give abundantly,” said Arenas. In the District, one out of two children under the age of 18 are at risk for hunger. Statistics show that hunger hits families where both parents are working but struggle to make ends meet; hunger affects seniors who find themselves with limited access to transportation and food; and hunger affects more than 12 million children who may not know where they will find their next meal. Nationwide more than 35 million Americans are struggling with limited access to food, and the problem of hunger in the United States is growing.
