Program set for "Remembering Abe"

‘Remembering Abe’ - A public memorial in celebration of the life of Chairman Abe Pollin

The Washington Wizards and Washington Sports & Entertainment will host an open public memorial for Abe Pollin, who passed away on Tuesday, November 24th at the age of 85. In the words of some of those that were closest to Abe Pollin, ‘Remembering Abe’ will pay tribute to the sportsman, businessman, philanthropist and family man in the ‘House That Abe Built’; Verizon Center, in the heart of the nation’s capital. The memorial event is free and open to the public. Donations can also be made in his honor to Abe’s Table c/o Wizards Care.

Throughout the day on Tuesday, December 8th, 2009, Wizards Care will conduct a day-long toy drive at Verizon Center. In honor of Mr. Pollin’s dedication to youth and the underserved, patrons are asked to bring an unwrapped, new toy that will be donated to the Salvation Army this holiday season. Toys should be brought to the F Street Entrance of Verizon Center, anytime from 7:00 am – 7:00 pm on December 8th. Each person who donates a toy will receive a ticket voucher to a future Wizards game, and while supplies last Dunkin Donuts will provide morning treats, and Papa John’s will provide midday snacks for participants.
